2022 Grammys: Arooj Aftab Wins Best Global Music Performance

Pakistani singer, Arooj Aftab has defeated Nigeria’s Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems and Femi Kuti to win the Best Global Music Performance at the 2022 Grammys.

Arooj Aftab came ahead of Femi Kuti (“Pà Pá Pà”), Wizkid and Tems (“Essence”), Angélique Kidjo and Burna Boy (“Do Yourself”) and Yo-Yo Ma and Angélique Kidjo (“Blewu”) to win her first Grammy.

Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’ wins Best Global Music Album at 2021 Grammys

I think I’m gonna faint. Wow, thank you so much. I feel like this category in and of itself has been so insane,” the Brooklyn-based Aftab said in her acceptance speech.

Burna Boy, Wizkid, Femi Kuti, Angélique Kidjo—should this be called Best World Music Performance? I feel like it should be called ‘yacht party category.’ But, anyway, thank you so much to everyone who helped me make this record, all my incredible collaborators, for following me and making this music I made about everything that broke me and put me back together. Thank you for listening to it and making it yours,” she added.

There have been expectations in Nigeria that Wizkid or Burna would come home with the award. However, FCs and Outsiders would be disappointed to hear the news.

Finally, Arooj Aftab is also nominated for the best new artiste category and may go home with 2 awards.
